Inspiration
The app was inspired by my lazy quarantine schedule and badger’s love for honey. I found myself with a lot of time on my hands but unsure what new activities I should pursue.
Badgers are black and white creatures that scavenge for food and go great distances to get honey. With Badger, I wanted to make an app that tells people to slow down and complete little tasks for enjoyment, ranging from taking a picture of a pretty leaf, to trying a new workout. The logo is inspired by a badger's sett (burrow) and the app's UI is both friendly and modern.
What it does
Badger connects people with "Honey Hunts" that are a set of challenges with or without prizes. These challenges can be made and sponsored by companies and include raffles, or participation prizes. There is also the option to make your own Honey Hunt and share it by link with friends. In a time where digital connection is almost the only connection, Badger wants to share the honey and happiness with everyone.
Despite including prizes as an attractive feature in my advertisement, Badger isn’t solely monetary. Badger wants you to learn new things and feel like you are being rewarded in the process. Stop staying in your burrow and go out to search for honey.
How we built it
Figma, Illustrator, and Photoshop were used to prototype and brainstorm ideas. Premiere Pro was used for the video.
Challenges we ran into
Being a one girl team with no coding experience, codeless applications were the only way I could make the app. I am also a beginner to UX design and this is my second time using Figma- so Badger took me an extremely long time.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I think that I translated my vision to a working prototype in a very short amount of time. Although it isn't as polished as it could be, Badger and I hope you enjoy.
What we learned
I learned a lot of new Figma transitions and animations today. I also learned that my back pain flares up very easily. This was my first time using Premiere Pro.
What's next for Badger
I hope that I can bring Badger to a platform. This would be done through the use of Flutter or Swift to develop the mobile app for Android or IOS. TO verify submissions follow content requirements- a visual API and databases with related pictures would need to be implemented.
