Autism Detection in Children using Machine Learning

People with Autism or any mental disorder or stripped away of the life that they could lead. people with ASD are often misdiagnosed. Using ML we can break the stigma and diagnose people easily.

Inspiration

The needs of children with Autism in India are not being met in either the regular or special education systems. With someone who can help them or aid them, a more able autistic child can function very well in a regular school, and learn valuable social skills from his friends. However, the rigidity and requirement of schools in some countries can make it very hard for an autistic child to cope without any special adjustments.

The reasoning behind our aspiration for this project lies in trying to fathom the prevalence of autism in developing countries and the deviations in ASD screening, which resulted in many misdiagnosed ASD patients in developing countries receiving no proper service and care.

What it does

Machine learning offers advanced techniques that construct automated classifiers that can be exploited by users and clinicians to significantly improve sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, and efficiency in diagnostic discovery.

Our Model helps in diagnosing children with ASD effectively and quickly. If health care integrates ML into diagnoses, it will be easier and effective for them to come to a conclusion.

How we built it

After data pre-processing, we built KNN, SVM and Logistic regression models to come to a conclusion on which classification models can be more effective. We used the IBM-Z community cloud portal to make our implementation successful.

Challenges we ran into

We, fortunately, have not run into any challenges.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We were proud of completing this project with 'NILL' hurdles and 'MORE' success! successfully able to complete the project and model it using IBMZ

What we learned

We attended so many events and learnt so much about IBM Z. We are happy to implement what we learnt during the phase of the competition.

When it comes to the project that we selected, We also learnt and understood so much about the stigma and no awareness around ASD while doing our project. We are very glad to work on such a serious cause and be part of the society which helps normalize treating people with mental disorders equally!!

What's next for Autism Detection in Children using Machine Learning

We can build an app or website using the model and host is publicly which can help several health care professions and also common public in diagnosing ASD properly.
