Inspiration
The Home Depot's challenge inspired us to bring the best of online purchases to brick and mortar stores. We are building on top of an existing product (electronic tags) that The Home Depot already makes us of but has some limitations. With AR we are able to match the results from the electronic tags and provide customers with an even greater experience.
What it does
It provides customers with 3D models, reviews, and detailed information making use of AR, potentially, for every single product within the Home Depot.
How we built it
We used Unity3D along with Vuforia's SDK and the Android platform.
Challenges we ran into
We had never deployed an app for Android let alone an AR application. It took us a while to get the grasp of it but Unity and Vuforia are really easy to learn.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The AR application actually works! We even went to a real Home Depot store to test it out.
What we learned
How to work with Unity, Vuforia, and deploying an android app.
What's next for ARound
- Expanding it to other stores such as BestBuy, Target, etc.
- Way-finding capabilities within the stores.
