Another man's recycling

Inspiration

The large amount of recycling that is thrown in the garbage, and the large amount of garbage that contaminates recycling.

What it does

The application takes a picture of garbage and returns what type of garbage it most probably is based on a machine learning model.

How we built it

Built using the React framework. Used the Custom Vision training API to train a model of various types of garbage. Used the Imgur API to send a image URL to the Custom Vision prediction API to have the model make a prediction

Challenges we ran into

Integrating the two APIs that we used were the biggest challenges

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The creation of the model and use of the prediction API were successful despite challenges

What we learned

We learned a lot about how machine learning works and how to integrate different APIs into code

Fully integrating the Imgur API to not throw errors
