Inspiration

We all had zero game development experience, and we wanted to take on a challenge. We were also very inspired by the amount of support and beginner knowledge Ubisoft was offering Hackers. We felt empowered and enabled to create at least a short and sweet game!

What it does

Our game aims to be a simple way to clear your head. By taking just 60 seconds out of your day, you can enjoy a mind-clearing adventure in the peace and quiet of nature. The user controls a character and walks them through the forest, passing by many custom-made sprites and structures.

How I built it

We made use of the Ubisoft API provided by Ubisoft Canada. We were all beginners with C++, but the API provided a quick and easy way to build a simple platformer game like ours. We made use of many Components and custom Sprites, as well as some Text features.

Challenges we ran into

We particularly struggled with the physics aspect of the game, notably jumping and gravity. Also, animating the sprite to correspond with a walking motion was a challenge for us. Additionally, being able to realistically build the visions and plans we had in mind with tools and languages we were unfamiliar with also proved to be a struggle.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are very very proud of the custom pixel artwork that we created for this game. Additionally, we are proud of how quickly we were able to pick up a new language (C++) and apply it to a field that was new for us (Game Dev.). Overall, we're proud to have a completed/finished product to share!

What we learned

We learned a whole lot of C++ given it was entirely new to us! We learned some key concepts in Game Dev, some basic API functionality, animation. Also, we got a welcome introduction to git and GitHub. Last but not least, we learned how to be amazing teammate each other :)

What's next for A Brisk Walk in a Forest

Well that's obvious.... A Brisk Walk on the Beach!!!! Stay tuned
