Inspiration

Our professor is obsessed with the idea of a light-up princess wall, so we tried to make it come to life during Hackathon, equipping it with music-manipulation features to make it even more exciting.

How it works

We used Arduino to collect data from infrared sensors which were used to change the LEDs in brightness. We can also control music based on hand gestures over the light soundboard.

Challenges we ran into

  • Body temperature changes during different times of the day and thus the base value measured from IR sensors changes
  • Wiring the LED matrix to have constant luminescence and to prevent crossed wires from shorting out the circuit

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We were able to receive detailed and differentiated readings from each of the IR sensors, enabling us to incorporate music manipulation aspects into the project.

What we learned

  • Resourcefulness (e.g. our makeshift speaker system)
  • Everything is connected; changing one aspect may have unintended consequences on another.

What's next for LumenSonics

  • Add more music manipulation features
  • Make control more precise
